PLUS Malaysia Berhad has confirmed a major step forward for highway electrification. As at 30 June 2025, the PLUS and LPT2 networks host 112 operational EV charging points, exceeding PLUS’s original target of 100 points by end-2025. Charging locations span selected Rest & Service Areas (R&Rs), lay-bys, and selected petrol stations, improving long-distance coverage and convenience for EV users on Malaysia’s busiest corridors.

According to PLUS’s media statement (18 Aug 2025), the chargers now in service are Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs) with output ranging from about 47 kW to 200 kW, equipped with universal CCS2 connectors. Typical sessions allow up to 80% charge in roughly 15–30 minutes, depending on vehicle state-of-charge and capabilities. To strengthen resilience and sustainability, solar panel roofing and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are being implemented at charging sites. Users can find and pay for charging via the PLUS Mobile App as well as operator apps such as JomCharge, Gentari Go, and ChargEV. PLUS also reports healthy utilisation growth this year, indicating rising EV adoption on highways.

Looking ahead, PLUS is targeting a total of 350 charging points by 2028, is piloting “Charge & Chill”  (charging paired with F&B at selected toll plazas by 2025), and is targeting Malaysia’s first Highway EV Hub at Seremban R&R (Southbound) via Terra ChargEV (a JV between Terra PLUS Sdn Bhd and Green EV Charge), with full operations targeted for Q1 2027.

The Southbound Gap: Where EVCC™ Pedas RSA Fits

On the Southbound stretch after Greater KL and before Melaka, the current published snapshot shows:

  • PETRONAS R&R Seremban: 1 charging point

  • SHELL R&R Seremban: 2 charging points

  • Senawang Lay-by: 4 charging points

  • Ayer Keroh Overhead Bridge Restaurant: 2 charging points

EVCC™ Pedas RSA (KM241 Southbound) is strategically located after the Seremban RSAs and before Ayer Keroh OBR, placing it at the natural “first proper stop” for KL-origin traffic heading toward Melaka and Johor. This is precisely where drivers want a reliable, comfortable, and high-throughput hub rather than a quick lay-by top-up.

EVCC™ Pedas RSA: Aspiring as Benchmark EV Hub on the PLUS Expressway

Role in the network: EVCC™ Pedas RSA is designed to anchor capacity on this high-demand segment, complementing PLUS’s expanding footprint by offering a full-service EV hub rather than a minimal stop.

Energy backbone:

A multi-operator hub with 24 DC fast-charging bays (Gentari & Tesla Supercharger). Dynamic load management enables simultaneous high-power sessions (180–360 kW class per bay) while protecting upstream limits. Sectionalised LV, real-time monitoring, and PV/BESS-ready design support high uptime and GreenRE Platinum ambitions.

ESG and efficiency:

EVCC™ Pedas RSA is aligned to Platinum Rated GreenRE ambitions for roadside development, with solar-ready roofscapes, rainwater harvesting, and efficient M&E systems. BESS integration pathways support peak-shaving, PV self-consumption, and resilience—mirroring PLUS’s own trajectory for solar + BESS at charging sites.

User experience:

Unlike a typical lay-by or rest-service area, EVCC™ Pedas RSA is being built as a lifestyle rest area : comfortable seating, curated F&B, convenience retail, surau, clean toilets, safe circulation, and shaded walkways—turning a 15–30 minute charge into a productive, pleasant break for families and long-haul drivers.

Why This Matters

  • Network reliability: Pedas RSA helps decongest Seremban stops and reduces pressure on Ayer Keroh OBR, where capacity is currently highly utilized.

  • Better highway retail economics: High-speed, predictable charging paired with strong amenities increases dwell quality and tenant sales, while maintaining rapid charger turnaround.

  • Sustainability leadership: By pursuing GreenRE Platinum alignment and energy-smart operations, EVCC™ Pedas RSA advances ESG outcomes that matter to customers, tenants, and financiers.

Conclusion

PLUS’s expansion to 112 charging points marks a clear acceleration in Malaysia’s highway electrification. EVCC™ Pedas RSA is positioned to complement and strengthen this network with a high-capacity, ESG-aligned EV hub at exactly the stretch where drivers need it most—between Seremban and Ayer Keroh. As PLUS progresses towards 350 charging points by 2028 and rolls out Charge & Chill and a Seremban Highway EV Hub, EVCC™ Pedas RSA aspire to compliment southern corridor benchmark for the EV Hub PLUS Expressway.
